New Thatch Roofs & Extensions
JJ Thatching constructs & installs new thatch roofs. We use only quality thatch grass and SABS & CCA treated materials. Extensions to existing thatched roofs are also offered as well as varnishing or sealing of all woodwork on lapas and other thatched roof structures.
Overthatching & Repairs
Overthatching is necessary when the lapa or thatch roof grass becomes old, worn or is starting to lose its water resistance. All inner layer thatching work is done using only quality Cape Thatch Reed whilst the outer layer is thatched with regular thatching grass. Leak repairs are also provided to all thatch roofs damaged by wind and rain including any structural repairs, valley & chimney leak repairs. Fiberglass ridge resealing and replacements are also provided.
Structural Repairs
If your thatching poles are badly cracked or your roof is failing due to poles that are beginning to rot then it needs to be fixed. There is a strong possibility that the roof could collapse if the structural integrity is not sound.
Thatch Roof Brushing
Brushing or combing maintenance is recommended for all lapas and thatch roofs every few years to keep it in good condition. This may include tightening of the twine so that the thatch roof looks neat and tidy again.
